Todd Tate Secures 2nd Place in 120MPH Category at Big Bend Open Road Race

The engines may have cooled and the dust settled on another thrilling year of the Big Bend Open Road Race (BBORR), but local racer Todd Tate has plenty to celebrate. Competing in the high-stakes 120 mph target category, Tate drove his signature metallic purple 1995 Corvette to a remarkable 2nd place finish, continuing his steady rise through the BBORR ranks.
After clinching first place in the 110 mph class last year, the Kinney County Appraisal District’s Chief Appraiser stepped up the challenge this April, aiming higher and pushing harder. With razor-sharp timing, a laminated reference chart on the dash, and a new GPS system added to his precision setup, Tate demonstrated not only speed but strategy — proving he’s a contender to watch in the open road racing scene.
Though the BBORR isn’t a spectator sport, Tate’s growing fanbase of friends, family, and fellow competitors were eager for updates as results rolled in. From his early days reading Hot Rod magazine to racing across West Texas highways, Tate’s journey is one of passion, preparation, and persistence — and this latest podium finish is just the next milestone. We can’t wait to see where he’s off to next!
