Garden Club cleans up the Foundation Garden
A sign at the entrance to the garden at Fort Clark Springs reads:
“This garden is the creation of The Mountain Laurel Garden Club. Dedicated to promoting neighborliness through the beautification of our homes and surroundings, we strive to protect and preserve the natural beauty of our area by learning more about nature, horticulture, flower arranging, art, birds and other creatures which share our environment. Further, we endeavor to volunteer our time and talent to improve our community through beautification projects.
This garden is called the “Foundation Garden” because it is planted in the foundation of what was once a 1944 Barracks. All of the plants used in this garden are deer resistant (no plant is deer proof) and many of the plants used were donated by members of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club.

Names of plants are identified with a marker in front of one of each species of plant; so if you don’t see a marker at one plant, it may in front of another of the same plant in another location.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the time you spend in this garden and ask that you take care not to damage any of the plants. If you are interested in the garden club we meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month, at 9:30 a.m., at the Adult Center here on Fort Clark Springs. We would love to have you join us! - The Mountain Laurel Garden Club, Fort Clark Springs, Brackettville, TX"
On Monday, members of the garden club gathered on site to clean the area, pull weeds, and spread new mulch, as the plants start to bloom, and the weather begs for visitors to come enjoy the benches in the shade of the garden.
