PUBLIC NOTICE: KINNEY COUNTY GROUNDWATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT

July 24, 2023

The Kinney County Groundwater Conservation District is requesting that Kinney County residents as well as absentee landowners in Kinney County, make a volunteer effort to conserve water usage anyway that you can.

While we were blessed with some good rainfall in parts of the county several weeks ago, these rains were not sufficient to remove us from extremely dry/drought conditions.

Water is one of our most important assets, which is central to all of us. The District, for the past 10-plus years has worked closely with our hydrogeologist and engineer to develop studies on water usage vs rainfall. Part of the mission of the Groundwater District is to promote water conservation and management strategies, and to promote efficient and beneficial use of groundwater within the District. The District also desires to manage the production and quality of groundwater within the District on a sustainable basis that allows the capture of water flowing through the county without jeopardizing the availability of water to the county during extended periods of low rainfall.

The District has 41 monitor wells located throughout the County. The equipment in these wells monitors the water level on an hourly basis and the District's engineer is on site at least twice a year for data collection from the monitors and provide a report to the Board of Directors. With proper equipment installation, we are also able to get depth to water information on a monthly basis from 14-of these wells, along with rainfall reports from 7-of the wells.

Again, your cooperation in conserving water as much as possible is appreciated.
