FCS Creative Collective Arts hosts Open House, Unveiling Transformed Makers Space from the Old Gym

by Annabell McNew

After several months of dedicated work led by Veronica and Joe Ulrich, Creative Collective Arts has breathed new life into the North Wing of the Adult Center at Fort Clark Springs. What was once a dated, unused gym has been thoughtfully refurbished into a vibrant makers space, thanks to the hard work and vision of local artists and volunteers.
The transformation includes the removal of old gym equipment and carpet, revealing beautiful terrazzo tile floors and striking green tile walls that had long been hidden. Windows have been cleaned, artwork has been hung, and members have begun setting up individual craft workspaces. While a few special kids’ classes are being offered this season—some free through sponsorships and others with minimal supply fees—the group is also preparing to launch more advanced adult classes, with pricing based on materials and instruction., signaling a new chapter for creativity on the Fort.
It is a vision that members say would make founder Pam Milam proud. Known for her larger-than-life personality, generosity, and passion for the arts, Pam was the driving force behind the Creative Collective. She worked tirelessly to promote fellow artists and share their talents with the community. Even while facing significant health challenges, she remained committed to reviving creative spaces at the Fort, including efforts to reopen the long-closed pottery studio.
Pam’s dream was to build a thriving community of artists at Fort Clark Springs—a place where creativity could be shared, nurtured, and celebrated. Those who worked alongside her say this renewed space is a continuation of that vision and a reflection of the joy and inspiration she brought to so many.
