Jesusita Valverde "Chita" Lopez
Jesusita "Chita" Valverde Lopez, 57, passed away on April 23, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, leaving her family devastated. She fought a courageous battle with liver disease, but her body could no longer continue the fight. Born on May 17, 1968 in Del Rio Texas, Chita was the baby of the family. Her infectious laughter and joy brought happiness wherever she went, leaving behind a legacy of wonderful memories. She graduated from Brackettville High School and continued to live most of her life there, where she was employed with the Kinney County Sheriff's Department as General Maintenance for the last ten years.
Chita was a devoted aunt, who lovingly treated her nieces and nephews as her own. She had a passion for children and spent her younger years babysitting for several families in the community. This is a tremendous loss to everyone who loved her and she will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Chita was preceded in death by her parents Gregorio and Francisca Lopez, brothers Gregorio Lopez Jr. and Felix Lopez, niece Valarie Williams, great niece Rosario Williams, and special fur baby Jake. Chita is survived by her four siblings and their spouses, Paul and Linda Lopez, Praxedis and Juan Aguirre, Paula and Daniel Samaniego, and Robert and Marta Lopez, companion David Villarreal, special little sidekick Denise Garza, and fur baby Riley. Chita also leaves behind 16 nieces and nephews, 41 great nieces and nephews, and 11 great-great nieces and nephews, along with numerous friends and co-workers who will miss her dearly.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM; recitation of the holy rosary at 6:30 PM at the Brackettville Sunset Funeral Home, 302 E. Spring St, Brackettville, Texas. The visitation will continue on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM at the Brackettville Sunset Funeral Home; followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 301 S. Ann St., Brackettville, Texas. Pallbearers will be Greg Lopez, Anthony Lopez, Rolando Aguirre, Joe D. Samaniego, David Samaniego, and Rolando Aguirre II. Honorary pallbearers will be Sheriff Brad Coe, Deputy Andres Frias, Tommy Quezada, Jose Tovar, Stan Conoly, Richard Esparza, Mark Frerich, Damien Villarreal, Robert Amescua, and Cesar Castillo. Interment will follow at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery.
