Texas History Mystery: Who Are These People at Fort Clark Ranch?
This photograph was taken in front of the Ranch Headquarters at Fort Clark Ranch in Brackettville, Texas, likely in the early 1960s. The image was taken by Warren Studio of Del Rio and shows a group of conference participants gathered outside of Dickman Hall, which served as the ranch headquarters after the original headquarters burned in 1959.
During this period, Fort Clark Ranch hosted several academic and leadership gatherings, including Southwestern Assembly conferences organized by Rice University and meetings of organizations such as the Philosophical Society of Texas. These events brought scientists, scholars, and civic leaders to this remote corner of Southwest Texas to discuss major issues of the day. The photo, property of Fort Clark Historical Society, now hangs in the entry of Dickman Hall, but the Bring Back the Ballroom committee can’t seem to find any information on who they might be.
We are trying to identify the individuals in this photograph and determine which conference or gathering this image represents. Do you recognize anyone in the photo or know what event this might have been? Let us know if you have any leads! Email annabell@kinneycountypost.com
