Obituary: John Robert Hope, May 15, 1943 - February 22, 2026
Our beloved husband, daddy, and pappaw went to be with his Lord after a brief illness on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was born in Houston, Texas May 15, 1943, to Glen Weldon and Velva Leona Marie Engelson Hope.
John married his high school sweetheart Wanda Fane Jones and from this union came his most prized works, their children Glen, Tina, and Cheri. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Wanda; sister Barbara H. Wilson, brother Richard “Dick” Hope, and daughter Cheri Lynn Hope. After a long career at Calhoun Packing, he started Hope Construction and then Hope Well Service. John loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a fishing guide for several years, and took people fishing and hunting all over the world. He tracked bass with radio transmitters for 22 years before GPS, and wrote a book called ‘Trackin Trophies’. He also hosted two television shows called ‘Fishing Texas’ and ‘Americana Outdoors’, and wrote for Honey Hole Magazine. In 2009, he moved to Brackettville, and purchased Southwest Auto and Tractor “SWAT”, and Arrowhead Ranch. In 2014, he met and married Patricia “Trish” Taylor Hope, and they shared 11 1/2 years of love, laughter and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Trish of Lake Havasu City, Az, father-in-law George William “Bill” Bullman of Lake Havasu City, Az, son Glen Robert Hope and wife Elizabeth of Elkhart, Tx and their children Kyle and wife Lacey, and their children Hudson and Liam; Daniel and wife Lindsey, and their children Case, Emori, and Hayes; and Kurt and wife Nichole, of Athens, Tx and their children Khloe, Kade, and Kole; daughter Tina and husband Terry Walling, of Palestine, Tx, and their children Jonathan and wife Misty, and their children Sawyer and Sadie; and Christopher and wife Chelsea, and their daughter Sterling, of Palestine, Tx ; grandchildren Kayt Loyd and her children Alexis and Paisley; Jacque Curtsinger, and Justin Curtsinger; stepdaughter Jessica and husband Roland Pina, and their children Nicholas and wife Kaitlyn, of San Antonio; Gabriel Pina, and Ashley Pina; stepson Aaron Taylor of Medina, Tx; honorary adopted sons Caleb Kleinhenz, of El Paso, Tx; and Christopher Melton and wife Lola, of Killeen, Tx; brothers-in-law Bob Jones, and wife Jane of Grapeland, Tx, and their children Jason and wife Angie, and son Lamar Jones; Jack Jones and wife Joanne of Palestine, Tx, and son Dean and wife Brandy, daughter Carla Jones Osborn; and sister-in-law Jan Jones Fleming of Lone Star, Tx; sister-in-law Brenda Neel and husband Lee, and their children Brenlee Neel of Pecos, Tx, Bradlee Neel, of San Angelo, Tx and Breelee and Colton Hoffmann of Uvalde, Tx; sister-in-law Lynn Hope, of Montgomery, and daughter Lisa Cerro, and son, Steven and wife Countess Hope; sister in law, Betty Bullman Burciaga & husband Walter of Eastvale CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 14 in Brackettville, Tx at the Church of Christ. Meal to follow in Fellowship Hall. A second Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 21 in Palestine, Tx at the New Life Community Church.
