Steffensens Support Ongoing Restoration of Dickman Hall

by Annabell McNew

Pat and Dennis Steffensen have long been dedicated supporters of Dickman Hall, generously giving their time, energy, and resources to help preserve one of Fort Clark’s most significant historic structures. Whether meeting friends, helping decorate, raising funds for maintenance and repairs, or promoting community events, the Steffensens have consistently worked to restore dignity and fellowship to a building that once stood as the pride of the officer corps and remains a testament to the area’s important role in United States military history.
As renovations move forward on the second-floor ballroom at Dickman Hall, volunteers involved with the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street program are actively working to raise funds and address much-needed repairs in preparation for hosting the exhibit later this fall. In support of those efforts, the Steffensens recently donated $1,000 to the Fort Clark Springs Community Council, specifically directed toward to that work. In addition to their financial contribution, the Steffensens will sponsor an upcoming movie night at the Post Theater, with concession sales benefiting the revitalization project, and have donated a Valentine’s Day basket to be raffled for the same cause.
Dickman Hall, originally built in 1939 as the officers’ club for the 5th Cavalry Regiment, 112th Cavalry Regiment, 9th Cavalry Regiment, and the 2nd Cavalry Division, is closely linked to Fort Clark’s military legacy. This past fall, residents gathered at Dickman Hall for a presentation honoring Dennis Steffensen, a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, the U.S. Army’s second-highest award for extreme gallantry in combat. For those in attendance, the ceremony underscored the importance of honoring both our veterans and the historic places that have shaped our nation’s military history. Pictured below, Annabell McNew thanked the couple for their generosity and continued commitment to preserving Dickman Hall for future generations.
