Brackettville and Brackett ISD Open Candidate Filing Periods for May 2026 Elections
January 16, 2026
With both the City of Brackettville and Brackett Independent School District preparing for their upcoming May 2, 2026 elections, local officials are encouraging residents to consider running for public office and taking an active role in shaping the future of their community.
The City of Brackettville has announced its filing period for candidates seeking office in the 2026 General Election. Residents may file for Mayor, City Council Member Place 2, Place 4, or Place 5 beginning January 14, 2026. The final day to submit an application is February 13, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. Applications must be filed with the City Secretary at 119 West Spring Street, either in person, by mail, or by carrier delivery. Mailed applications are considered filed only when received. These positions hold responsibility for essential city functions—from budgeting and infrastructure to public safety, ordinances, and long-term planning. The city encourages residents who value community service to consider stepping into leadership.
Brackett ISD has also opened the filing window for candidates seeking a place on the ballot for the May school board election. The district will accept applications from January 14 through February 13, 2026, with office hours Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and extended hours until 5:00 p.m. on the final day. Candidates must submit a written, signed, and sworn application that meets the requirements outlined by the Texas Education Code and BISD Board Policy. The BISD Board of Trustees oversees district policy, budgeting, facilities management, curriculum priorities, and the educational wellbeing of Brackett ISD students. Residents willing to invest their time and perspective into local education are encouraged to consider filing.
Election Day for both the city and school district is set for Saturday, May 2, 2026, with early voting scheduled for April 20–28, 2026 at the Kinney County Civic Center. Voters wishing to cast ballots by mail must apply between January 1 and April 20, 2026. Applications may be submitted by mail, email, fax, or hand delivery to the BISD Election Administrator, with original documents required within four days of electronic submission.
As filing opens for both municipal and school board positions, local leaders emphasize that elections offer citizens a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the future of Brackettville and Kinney County. Serving on a city council or school board is a chance to influence decisions that affect daily life—from roads and utilities to classroom resources and student opportunities. These roles benefit from a diversity of perspectives, and individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to step forward. Residents interested in running are urged to review eligibility requirements, ask questions, and consider how their experience and dedication might benefit the broader community. A strong community begins with engaged citizens. With both the City of Brackettville and Brackett ISD welcoming new candidates this election cycle, now is an ideal time for those who are passionate about local service to consider placing their name on the ballot.
A healthy Kinney County requires great community news.
