The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission is inviting public comments on a proposal to acquire approximately 54,000 acres in Kinney and Edwards counties for the creation of a new state park. The property includes 7.5 miles of the West Nueces River, a 30-acre lake, and diverse wildlife habitat about 15 miles east of Kickapoo Cavern State Park.
Public comments will be accepted online through 5:00 p.m. on November 5, 2025, ahead of the Commission’s meeting in El Paso on November 6. Residents can share feedback by email at real.estate.comment@tpwd.texas.gov, by mail to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, 4200 Smith School Road, Austin, TX 78744, or through the TPWD website at tpwd.texas.gov.

The Commission will vote on the acquisition during its 9 a.m. meeting on November 6 at the El Paso Convention Center. If approved, the purchase would establish a new state park aimed at expanding recreation opportunities and conserving Texas wildlife habitat.
