Local Viewing of New World Screwworm Webinar - June 9

Kinney County residents will have a special opportunity to attend a local viewing of a highly anticipated webinar on the New World screwworm, a serious pest with implications for livestock, wildlife, and public health. The viewing will be held at the Kinney County District Courtroom (upstairs) on Sunday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. Hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, the free, expert-led webinar will provide essential information on the biology of the New World screwworm, as well as the latest prevention, treatment strategies, and public health concerns. This is an important and timely session as state, federal, and private organizations continue to develop stronger partnerships and responses to protect against this dangerous pest. The session is open to livestock producers, veterinarians, landowners, and concerned citizens—anyone interested in learning how to help detect, prevent, and report potential cases of screwworm infestations. As preventive strategies and response protocols evolve, community awareness and vigilance remain key.  Expert panel includes Sonja Swiger, AgriLife Extension entomologist and Texas A&M Entomology professor; Phillip Kaufman, AgriLife Extension entomologist and head of the Texas A&M Entomology department; Terry Hensley, Assistant Director for Diagnostic Services, Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Lab (TVMDL); T.R. Lansford, Deputy Executive Director and Assistant State Veterinarian, Texas Animal Health Commission.
