Two Local Kinney County Residents Recognized in Texas Conservation Awards Program
SOPHIA FEAGLEY AND SAMANTHA CARDONA of BRACKETTVILLE are recognized for their participation in the Texas Conservation Awards Program sponsored by WEST NUECES LAS MORAS Soil and Water Conservation District Board and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Sophia Feagley placed first, and Samantha Cardona placed second in the Kindergarten to Second grade age group in the Local SWCD Poster contest and in the Association of Texas SWCD AREA contest. In addition to local level cash prizes, both these winners will be honored at an Area Awards Dinner in Wall, Texas on May 6 th . They will be presented with plaques by our Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board members. Our local West Nueces Las Moras SWCD sponsors their tickets and travel. Other local Poster winners include Addilyn Fowler-3 rd place in the Kinder to 2 nd grade age group, Alyssa Torres-1 st place, Angelina Moore-2 nd place, Brynlee Ford-3 rd place in the 3 rd to 5 th grade age group, and London Villarreal-1 st place in the Essay contest. All the poster and essay winners mentioned receive cash prizes and had a chance to progress to Area and State to have a chance at a scholarship for their efforts. Special thanks to Brackett I.S.D. teachers for teaching Conservation topics and for giving their students the opportunity to participate in the Annual Texas Conservation Awards Program. The Annual Texas Conservation Awards Program began in the late 1970’s to educate and to recognize conservationists and the vital role they play in managing Texas’ natural resources. The purpose of the program is to acknowledge, recognize, and honor individuals that dedicate their time and efforts to the conservation of natural resources. The program provides an opportunity for competition and incentives to expand and improve conservation efforts as well as the wise utilization of renewable natural resources.
