Pickleball Progress
Momentum is building in Fort Clark Springs as locals are hopeful about the possibility of converting the tennis court at the golf club into two new pickleball courts. Thanks to a generous $2,000 pledge from the RV Park Committee, followed by $2,000 from Fort Clark Springs Community Council pledged during their April meeting, the project is off to a strong start.
With an additional $1,100 raised —from cash donations at Fort Clark Days, along with a generous contribution from Sylvia and Chip Riggins—the project now has a total of $5,100 in hand. And in a major boost, an anonymous donor has stepped up with a matching challenge: pledging up to $2,000 in matching funds to help encourage further giving.
Project Pickleball is being presented by Mary Ann Oliver, with the help of Chip Riggins and Maja Edwards. The goal is to clean and seal the existing tennis court, which has been out of commission for some time, and install a specialized tile for pickleball courts, to provide more recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The project is still pending final approval, but residents are hopeful that this will be a project everyone can enjoy. Initial funding and feedback indicate the project is not just pie in the sky, and locals may be able to hit the courts before the end of the year.
Excitement is growing, but additional donations are still needed to make the plan a reality. Anyone interested in contributing or getting involved is encouraged to reach out to Mary Ann Oliver at maryann.oliver@ymail.com.
