Volunteers Sought for Smithsonian Exhibition at Fort Clark Springs

by KCP

Volunteers are needed to help welcome visitors to Fort Clark Springs when the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibition, Spark! Places of Innovation, opens at historic Dickman Hall on Nov. 21.
The six-week exhibition, which runs through Jan. 3, 2027, will bring regional exhibits and a variety of special programs to the community. The traveling exhibition will be accompanied by Legends at Las Moras, a locally developed program highlighting the people, places, history and innovations that have shaped Southwest Texas.
Organizers are seeking volunteers to serve as greeters and visitor hosts throughout the exhibition. Responsibilities include welcoming guests, introducing visitors to the exhibits and assisting with visitor sign-ins.
Volunteer opportunities are available for those who can commit a few hours, a full day or multiple days during the six-week run. No specialized knowledge of the exhibits is required for the basic greeting and check-in duties.
The exhibition is expected to draw both local residents and visitors from throughout the region, creating an opportunity for community members to serve as ambassadors for Fort Clark Springs and Kinney County. In addition to the Smithsonian exhibition, Legends at Las Moras will feature six weeks of programming exploring regional heritage, arts and culture, military history, film, music and innovation.
The exhibition will be housed in the second-floor ballroom of Dickman Hall at Fort Clark Springs. Volunteer coverage is being coordinated during exhibition hours, with opportunities available throughout the six-week period. Those interested in volunteering may contact Sharon Wolfe at (281) 467-6027 or sgwolfe@bigbend.net.
The exhibition opens Saturday, Nov. 21, and continues through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027.
