Obituary: Ella Chambers, March 28, 1930 - September 3, 2026

by St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Brackettville

Ella Chambers, 96, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, held in the love of her family and the comfort of her faith. She was born on March 28, 1930, on a ranch near Camp Wood, Texas. Ella married Frank Chambers, and together they raised five children.
Ella began her career teaching in parochial schools, sharing not only knowledge but a quiet, steady kindness that shaped countless young lives. With determination and pride, she later returned to school and earned her BA in Sociology from Arizona State University. She went on to work with the State of Arizona until her retirement. After retiring, she returned to Brackettville, Texas—the place she grew up and lovingly called her “happy place.”
Ella lived her faith through service, hospitality, and a heart open to everyone she met. She was active in the Brackettville community, serving with the Lion’s Club and participating in the life of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, where she worshiped, volunteered, and found deep spiritual belonging. Her warm and loving nature was unmistakable; she offered hugs freely, and her home was filled with angels and inspirational sayings that reflected her trust in God’s presence and protection.
As Ella advanced in age, she moved to Arizona to be closer to family. She lived at Fellowship Square, a retirement community, until her passing. Even in her final years, she carried a pleasant and gracious disposition. She loved to knit, creating countless baby blankets for newborns in Arizona hospitals—a quiet ministry of comfort she carried out for many years. Her hands were always busy with something gentle, something meant to bless someone else.
When she moved into assisted living, she gave away many of her beloved angels, and the residents placed them in their windows so she could see them on her daily walks—a tender testament to the love she inspired.
She had a lifelong love of animals and found deep comfort in their company. Over the years, Ella rescued many animals from shelters, giving them a safe home and loving care. Her compassion extended to her pets were a part of her daily life.
Ella is survived by her five children—Vicky, Clyde, Mary, Charlie, and Betty—and eleven grandchildren. She is deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her family is grateful for the prayers, love, and support during this time.
“Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
