Public Meeting on Proposed Howard–Solstice Transmission Line Rescheduled to July 30

The Texas Border Sub-Regional Planning Commission has rescheduled its public meeting on the proposed Howard–Solstice 765-kilovolt transmission line for Thursday, July 30, at 6 p.m. at the William R. Mitchell Uvalde County Fairplex, 215 Veterans Lane in Uvalde. The meeting was originally scheduled for July 16 but was postponed because of flooding.

Representatives from AEP Texas and CPS Energy are expected to attend to answer questions from members of the commission regarding the proposed transmission project. While utility representatives will respond to questions posed during the meeting, organizers have indicated they will not take public comments.

The Border Sub-Regional Planning Commission, a committee of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, includes representatives from Uvalde County, the City of Uvalde, the City of Sabinal and Kinney County. The commission has expressed opposition to the proposed local routing of the transmission line.

Commission members are expected to ask questions about the Howard-to-Solstice project, including its potential effects on private property rights, environmental resources and surrounding communities. Local landowners and subject-matter experts are also expected to participate by presenting questions and concerns for discussion.

The Howard-to-Solstice transmission line is a proposed 765-kilovolt electric transmission project that would extend across portions of South and West Texas as part of a broader effort to strengthen the state's electric transmission system. One of the proposed alignments, known as Route 4, would cross portions of Uvalde and Kinney counties. The meeting is open to the public, and residents interested in learning more about the project are encouraged to attend.
